I’m particularly fond of this painting because I feel I was able to pull off what I wanted to say. At first glance it’s a calm, simple and hopefully peaceful picture of birds resting in a pool of water that had been sculpted out of the sand by the changing tides. But looking further one can see that there was a lot of work and detail that went into the painting.
Most amazing are the beautiful patterns of murmurations they create while in flight. I love their simple beauty yet upon closer inspection or when in flight they have all of these beautiful different colors which is why I was glad to have a Dunlin preening to show all his different colors of blues and golds and shades of brown.
Much like these beautiful little resting birds, I also think this painting can be easily passed by until you stop and really look…
